Bath Stag Do's

Bath offers stag groups an attractive mix of sophisticated, trendy bars, traditional pubs for sports fans and real ale enthusiasts, spacious beer gardens for summery days, and a small but sparky club scene. This is not a big city though, so not all venues welcome large groups of lads. We recommend that you read our stag do nightlife guide for Bath to ensure that your evening plans run like clockwork.

Let’s start with sports pubs, because we know that stag groups often want to catch the footie or rugby if their team is in action over the weekend. Two of the best sports pubs in Bath are Belushi’s on Green Street, and the Assembly Inn on Alfred Street, the latter of which boasts a courtyard garden and a couple of pool tables. Never miss a moment of the action with these big and lively sports-viewing venues. 

One of our absolute favourite pubs in Bath is the historic freehouse and music venue, The Bell Inn, on the edge of the city centre. Here you can enjoy a slate of real ales while being warmed by an open fire, nod your heads to live music at their regular open mic slots in the back bar, and chow down on delicious woodfired pizza. It’s a community-owned pub, so every beer bought is money that’s very well-spent.

Another great choice is the Ale House, an intimate city centre corner pub where the landlord has a bit of a reputation for close-up magic. They put on a free show every Friday and Saturday evening that’s worth checking out if you want to do something a little bit different. Similar magical shenanigans are on offer at the quirky Sleight Bar.

The Bath Brewhouse on James St West, with its very own microbrewery, has in our opinion got one of the best beer gardens in Bath, and there’s another really good one at the Hare & Hounds, where you'll be met with fabulous food and drink, friendly service, and unrivalled views over the local countryside. In short, you’re spoilt for choice for great pubs in this city, with riverside views, sun-splashed terraces, and ace country settings all available. 

Bath also has lots of swish cocktail bars where the mixologists will prepare your concoctions in style. Expect good tunes, a well-dressed clientele, and an atmosphere that will keep you sticking around for a while at venues such as Fidel’s Rum Bar (a large own-blend salted caramel rum on the rocks, anyone?) and the Dark Horse Bar. The latter describes itself as ' a relaxed and discerning drinking den' serving classic and contemporary cocktails in an antique decor. Another top cocktail bar, more mainstream and as such always a popular one for Bath stag do’s, is Revolution - they also do very good food, so let us know if you’d like us to book you and the boys in for a meal to line the stomach at the start of the night.  

Not everyone is content to head back to their hotel come closing time, and Bath has a handful of excellent late-night venues that are worth checking out. Moles is a student favourite, with regular inhouse club nights that focus on 80s, 90s and 00s chart hits, covering the cheesiest of cheese, but also rock and hip-hop. We think it's the place to come if you want to throw some questionable shapes into the early hours. The Second Bridge is a small club underneath the Earl Bar, a cosy cocktail and sheesha joint, popular with hen parties, and boasting a very cool outdoor terrace.
