Bournemouth Britain's holiday capital

Those planning a stag party in the UK may wish to consider heading to Bournemouth after the town was rated the best holiday resort in the country.

According to recent Virgin Money Travel Insurance research, the seaside destination is top of a list of 66 UK holiday sites.

Each resort was judged in terms of price, weather and the quality of its attractions, with Bournemouth scoring the highest.

It beat towns such as Portsmouth, Brighton, Scarborough and even London to claim the title of Britain's staycation capital.

British Resorts and Destinations Association director Peter Hampton stated that Bournemouth's appeal is plain to see.

"There's a lot there - there's shows, there's theatres, there's entertainment, there's a fantastic seven miles of beach. So it's a big resort which puts an awful lot of effort in and has a lot to offer," he said.

According to Bournemouth.gov.uk, a 2006 poll found that the top reason for visiting was to spend time at the seaside.
