People who have been affected by the credit crunch have been encouraged to consider taking a holiday at home.
According to VisitBritain, the weakening of the pound against the euro is impacting on the cost of travelling to places such as France and Spain.
As a result, it believes people who are planning to take a break, possibly for a weekend away or stag do, could find it more affordable to remain in the UK.
Christopher Rodrigues, chairman of VisitBritain, commented: "Britain is a top-notch destination - the sixth most visited country worldwide."
He added that the UK's tourism authority plans to take this opportunity to promote the value that a holiday in Britain can offer.
According to a recent study by VisitBritain, 90 per cent of the population intends to cut down on their general spending to make sure they can afford a break.
