Four Birmingham City season ticket holders cut short their stag weekend in Poland to attend yesterday's League Cup Final against Arsenal at Wembley. Costing an extra £70 each, the lads were due to return from Gdansk after the match, but groom Warren Bassett was quick to rearrange after Birmingham's triumph over West Ham in the semi-final.
Speaking to the Birmingham Mail, Bassett said:
“It’s a game we just knew we couldn’t miss. This is the first major cup final at Wembley in our lifetimes.”
The 31-year old IT analyst from Solihull attended the final and would have been delighted to see his side end a 48 year trophy drought by claiming an unlikely 2-1 victory over Arsenal. Obafemi Martins hit the 92nd minute winner after a defensive mix-up between vowel-shy keeper Wojciech Szcesny and the hapless centre-back Laurent Koscielny.
The rest of Warren’s stag party had to be content with watching the game on a bar stool in a Polish pub. Poor blighters.
