Edinburgh for a Stag weekend

11 Apr 2009

As the capital city of Scotland, Edinburgh is famous for many things, and now being a top location for a stag weekend is amongst its accolades. Edinburgh is set in the south-east of Scotland on the east coast of the Central belt near the North Sea. Edinburgh Airport is the main gateway to the city and means that even if you're travelling from afar with your stag group, Edinburgh is only s short plane ride away. You can also reach Edinburgh via train to Edinburgh Waverley station from London King's Cross. With it being such an amazing city to visit they've made it as easy as possible for you to get there.

During the day it's worth spending some time wandering this magnificent and historic city. You may have arranged to do a popular stag activity such as golfing, clay pigeon shooting or paintballing and quad biking are often requested by stag parties going to Edinburgh for the weekend. If you have time to wander the city you won't be disappointed by its array of top notch shopping and sights to see. It is the second most visited city in the UK after London which is probably to do with its mixture of fantastic heritage and modern entertainment.

The Old Town in Edinburgh has preserved much of the medieval plan and there are many buildings still standing from the Reformation period. The New Town isn't really that new considering it was mostly constructed between 1765 and 1850, and it contains some notable areas such as Princes Street which faces the famous Edinburgh Castle. Princes street is about a mile long and is host to a range of shops and bars making it a perfect place to stroll during the day or evening before you really get stuck into the night life.

In terms of where to go drinking on an evening, Edinburgh has a fantastic range of pubs, bars and clubs to keep you entertained on your stag weekend. If Princes Street gets a bit crowded, head to Rose Street which runs parallel and you will find a variety of pubs from old fashioned boozers to more upmarket modern bars. The street is pedestrianised which means you can start from one end and stumble from pub to pub quite happily. You can also find some cracking night spots on the High Street which is part of the Royal mile that runs from Edinburgh Castle to Holyrood Palace. Expect to find some old fashioned Scottish pubs serving some excellent ale on this stretch. There are also other drink locations from Grassmarket, the Cowgate and Cockburn where you can find a tipple or two to quench the thirst of you and your stag party.

Edinburgh has a range of nightclubs where you can take the boys for some late night boozing and dancing. The majority of nightclubs fall either side of the Princes Street area. From well known chains like Po Na Na and VIP cocktail clubs, you're bound to find somewhere to keep you entertained on your Edinburgh stag evening out.
