Brits planning an
action-packed stag party might decide to head to the Lake District, after the area was touted as a good destination for adventure activities.
According to a OnePoll survey of 10,000 holidaymakers, the region is one of the top five places in Europe in which to enjoy a break.
It discovered that the Lake District is popular among walkers and intrepid adventure sports enthusiasts.
Tourism Cumbria noted that the area did not need perfect weather to be an attractive proposition and added that those seeking excitement rarely expect sunny weather.
"In the vast majority of cases, those who love the outdoors come prepared for all conditions and still enjoy the scenery whatever the weather - especially in the autumn and early winter months when the colours are magnificent," explained Tourism Cumbria public relations manager Julie Darroch.
Other UK destinations included in the OnePoll list were London, St Ives and Newquay, while popular
stag party cities Amsterdam, Majorca and Ibiza also made the 20-strong directory.
