London 'set to prove popular with stag parties this year'

People planning a stag weekend here in the UK this summer could find a trip to London is the perfect way to celebrate their impending nuptials.

According to new research from Garmin, the capital is set to become something of a holiday hotspot as more than a fifth of people plan to visit in 2009.

And with its range of high-class bars and traditional British pubs combined with a variety of daytime attractions, the city could provide the ideal base for a big night on the tiles.

Commenting on London's popularity this year, a VisitBritain spokesperson said: "Whatever appeals to visitors, they'll find something to enjoy in the capital."

He added the city's "superb" reputation for shopping, accommodation and eating and going out makes it a hit with tourists from all corners of the world.

Indeed, according to a study by Hotels.com and Wedding Ideas magazine, London is the most popular destination for those planning a stag weekend away this year.

The UK capital beat off competition from traditional party locations such as Prague stag party and Amsterdam stag party, with Brighton, Leeds and Edinburgh also featuring in the top ten.
