Popular stag night traditions may still be alive and kicking, but it seems the modern-day wedding gift list is changing with the times.
According to a study by department store John Lewis, items such as cutlery sets or kitchen essentials are being displaced on the wish lists of many young couples by hi-tech accessories and computer games.
The research revealed that best-selling games console the Nintendo Wii is now among the top 20 items desired by newlyweds as the digital age continues to grow.
John Lewis Gift List senior analyst Tracey Yates told the Telegraph: "Two years ago, the top 20 products on the Gift List were exclusively traditional items from linens, kitchenware, china and glass but, in the second half of last year, the Wii sports pack made it to the top 20."
She added that the trend may be down to the fact many couples now end up living together before they are married, meaning most are already set up with homeware and crockery equipment.
The Wii has enjoyed particular success as a result of the Wii Fit game designed to help users get fitter and exercise from the comfort of their living room.
