Categories: Things To Try
The most recent initiative from the Torbay police in Devon, funded by the Home Office is to supply safe footwear to the many drunken girls in the town centre.
Torbay is a very popular spot for Stag and Hen Parties with many people overdoing things and ending up in the streets in rather bedraggled states...
There has been a large incidence of injuries in the local Accident and Emergency wards as a result not only of this heavy drinking amongst Stag and Hen revellers, but, due to the tendency of girls to wobble around in teetering high heels.
Hence, women are being offered the chance to get out of their wobbly high heels and put on some safe ( though slightly less sexy ) sensible shoes to protect themselves from injury.
Prior to this interesting scheme the local police handed out condoms and sexual health leaflets to Stag Parties and even handed mops to people caught urinating in the street.
The special flip-flops will come with the educational strap line : "Know your Code", imprinted on them.
Insp Leisk from Torbay Police Force : said:
"Sometimes people get drunk and you see them carrying footwear which is inappropriate.
The emphasis is on providing replacement footwear for people to get home in, should they find their high heels uncomfortable, inappropriate or soiled.
We have consulted with people who work week-in, week-out on our night time patrol areas, including street pastors, the Safe Bus, and community wardens.
This is just one of a number of measures designed to keep people safe."
This will be a better alternative than existing options which either see Stag and Hen guests walking home barefoot or staggering as if on stilts.
